Scope of work

What each lighting service involves.

The right solution depends on the room, the intended use, the condition of the existing circuit and the desired lighting effect. These service details explain what to expect before an estimate.

01 / Interior lighting

Room lighting that works day to day.

We install and alter lighting for kitchens, bathrooms, living spaces, bedrooms and circulation areas. The design can combine general illumination with focused lighting where you cook, work, read or get ready.

For bathrooms, equipment selection and positioning take account of electrical zones and the suitability of fittings for the environment.

  • Kitchen downlights, under-cabinet lights and task lighting
  • Pendants, wall lights, recessed and surface-mounted fittings
  • Switch-position changes and two-way switching where practical
  • Bathroom and wet-area fitting suitability
  • Testing and certification appropriate to the electrical work

02 / Architectural lighting

Feature lighting planned around the finish.

Architectural lighting is easiest to integrate before walls, joinery and ceilings are completed. We can coordinate positions, cable routes, drivers and switching with the wider refurbishment team.

The aim is controlled light, manageable glare and a maintainable system—not simply adding more fittings.

  • LED strip and profiles for joinery, shelves and coves
  • Wall-washing and accent lighting for selected features
  • Driver locations and future maintenance access
  • Lighting layers, dimming groups and compatible control gear
  • Coordination with builders, architects and interior designers
03 / Garden lighting

Outdoor lighting with a practical cable route.

Paths, steps, patios, planting and outdoor seating need different levels and directions of light. We consider where people walk, what you want to highlight and how the lighting will operate after dark.

Outdoor circuits and accessories must suit their exposure to weather and physical damage. We plan routing and protective measures before installing the fittings.

  • Path, step and entrance illumination
  • Planting, feature and architectural garden lighting
  • Low-voltage systems and suitable power supplies where appropriate
  • Timer, photocell, sensor and manual switching options
  • Cable protection, water ingress and maintenance access

04 / Security and access lighting

Better visibility without unnecessary glare.

Security lighting should help you see entrances, side passages, rear access routes and other relevant areas without causing avoidable light spill towards neighbours.

We assess sensor positioning, power supply, switching and the type of fitting before installation or replacement.

  • PIR and other motion-activated fittings
  • Entrance and access-path lighting
  • Dusk-to-dawn, timer and manual-override options
  • Suitable placement to reduce nuisance triggering
  • Fault investigation for existing exterior lighting circuits

05 / Commercial lighting

Lighting suited to how the premises operate.

For shops, offices, communal areas and suitable other premises, we can assess existing lighting, propose LED upgrades or additional fittings, and plan work around access and business hours.

General working lighting and emergency escape lighting are different systems. Where emergency lighting is involved, its design and testing must reflect the building's escape arrangements and fire-risk assessment.

  • Office, retail and common-area lighting alterations
  • LED upgrades and switching or occupancy controls
  • Coordinated installation during a fit-out or refurbishment
  • Inspection, testing and records appropriate to the work
  • Emergency-lighting work assessed separately where relevant

06 / LED and smart controls

Lower-energy lighting with compatible controls.

LED upgrades can reduce electricity use, but fitting and control compatibility matters. Some existing transformers, drivers and dimmers are not suitable for replacement LED equipment without modification.

We can assess the existing wiring and propose controls that suit the equipment and how you use each room.

  • Replacement fittings and suitable LED conversions
  • Driver and dimmer compatibility checks
  • Occupancy sensors, photocells and timers
  • Compatible smart switches or lighting-control systems
  • Practical commissioning and demonstration of controls

Electrical safety: Relevant work is assessed against BS 7671 and applicable Building Regulations. We select suitable equipment for the location, arrange appropriate isolation and protective measures, and provide relevant inspection, testing and certification.

Frequently asked questions

Lighting installation questions.

Can you design and install garden lighting?

Yes. We discuss the areas to illuminate, outdoor equipment suitability, practical wiring routes and how the system should be controlled. You can also read our garden lighting guide.

Can existing lights be converted to LED?

Often, yes, but we check the existing fittings, drivers, transformers and dimmers before confirming compatibility. Some changes may require new control equipment or altered wiring.

Do you handle bathroom lighting and outdoor IP ratings?

Yes. Suitable protection depends on the exact location, exposure and the manufacturer's installation requirements. We assess the bathroom zones or outdoor conditions when selecting equipment.

Can you install smart lighting controls?

Yes, subject to product compatibility, the wiring present and the functions required. We can discuss suitable switches, dimmers, occupancy sensors, timers and connected controls.

Do you install emergency lighting for businesses?

We undertake appropriate emergency-lighting installation, testing and remedial work. This is distinct from general decorative or office lighting. See our commercial and emergency lighting guide for more details.

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Streatham and undertake suitable lighting work around Balham, Tooting, Clapham, Brixton, Wandsworth, Battersea, Wimbledon, Dulwich, Herne Hill and neighbouring areas. Check our service area directory or send your postcode.
