How does the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant work?

The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant is a UK Government scheme designed to help reduce the upfront cost of installing an electric vehicle (EV) charger at eligible residential and commercial properties.

The grant provides 75% off the cost of supply and installation, capped at £350 per charger, and is available to a specific group of applicants:

  • Renters

  • Flat owners

  • Landlords

  • Businesses (via separate workplace schemes)

⚠️ Homeowners are no longer eligible for the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant.

At NOD Electrical Services, we are OZEV-approved installers, providing EV charger installation across South London and North Surrey, and we manage the entire grant process on your behalf.

What is OZEV?

OZEV stands for the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, a UK Government body supporting the transition to electric vehicles and low-carbon transport.

OZEV:

  • Sets standards for EV charging equipment and installers

  • Manages grant funding for EV chargepoints

  • Supports the rollout of EV charging infrastructure across the UK

Only OZEV-approved installers and chargepoints can be used when claiming a grant.

What is the EV Chargepoint Grant?

The EV Chargepoint Grant replaced the former Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) in 2022.

Under the current scheme:

  • Up to 75% of installation costs are covered

  • Maximum grant value: £350 per charger

  • One grant per eligible vehicle and household

The grant is designed specifically for:

  • People living in flats

  • Renters

  • Landlords

  • Businesses (via workplace grants)

Who is eligible for the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant?

To qualify, you must:

✔ Own, lease, or have an eligible EV on order
✔ Live in a flat or rented property, or be a landlord
✔ Have off-street parking accessible 24/7
✔ Have permission from the landlord (if renting)
✔ Install an OZEV-approved smart charger
✔ Use an OZEV-authorised installer

For flat owners, parking must be:

  • Clearly allocated to the property

  • Clearly signposted

🚫 Properties under construction or not yet built are not eligible.

Which vehicles qualify for the OZEV Grant?

  • All full battery electric vehicles (BEVs)

  • ⚠️ Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) must emit under 50g/km of CO₂

Vehicle eligibility can change, so we always check the latest OZEV-approved vehicle list before applying.

Can I apply for the OZEV grant myself?

No.
Only an OZEV-approved installer can apply for the grant.

At NOD Electrical Services, we:

  • Check your eligibility

  • Submit the application

  • Deduct the grant value directly from your invoice

  • Handle all OZEV paperwork and compliance

You never need to deal with OZEV directly.

How do I apply for the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant?

The process is simple:

1. Eligibility check

We confirm your vehicle, property, and charger eligibility.

2. Quotation

We provide a clear, fixed-price quote with the grant already deducted.

3. Grant application

Once you approve the quote, we submit the application to OZEV.

4. Installation

After approval, we install your EV charger (within 90 days).

5. Grant claim

We claim the grant directly from OZEV — no action needed from you.

How long does the OZEV grant take?

  • OZEV typically processes claims within 30 working days

  • Installation must be completed within 90 days of approval

  • Delays usually occur due to missing or incorrect information (which we manage for you)

What does “OZEV approved” mean?

“OZEV approved” means that:

  • The installer is trained, assessed, and authorised

  • The charger meets government safety and smart-charging standards

Using a non-approved installer or charger invalidates the grant.

Can I get an OZEV grant for a leased car?

Yes.

If you lease an EV:

  • The lease must run for at least 6 months before installation

  • And 6 months after installation

Proof of lease may be required.

What happened to the EVHS (Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme)?

The EVHS ended in March 2022.

Unlike EVHS, the current EV Chargepoint Grant:

  • Is not available to homeowners

  • Focuses on flats, renters, landlords, and businesses

Grants for landlords and residential car parks

Landlords and managing agents may also be eligible for the:

EV Infrastructure Grant for Residential Car Parks

  • Up to £500 per bay

  • Up to 60 bays

  • Covers cabling and infrastructure, not just chargers

We can advise on this during a site survey.
