The classification describes the action needed. Under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, FI means further investigation is advised; FI alone does not make an EICR unsatisfactory.
Coding guidance reviewed 2 November 2026. IET guidance: further investigation under Amendment 4.
Repair the defect.
Plan the right work.
We explain any C1 or C2 observations responsible for an unsatisfactory assessment, with FI advice and C3 recommendations explained separately.
Remedial work is based on the specific defect. We can provide a separate estimate for repairs, protective-device improvements or other justified work.

Electrical inspection FAQs.
How often does a rented property need an EICR?
In England, private landlords generally must ensure electrical installations are inspected and tested at intervals of no more than five years, or sooner where the latest report requires it. Duties depend on the property and tenancy; discuss the applicable requirements when booking.
Will the power need to be switched off?
Some tests require circuits to be safely isolated. We agree access and likely interruptions before starting, including any operational requirements for business premises.
Does an FI code make the report unsatisfactory?
No. Under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, FI means further investigation is advised and does not by itself make the report unsatisfactory. Follow up the inspector’s advice. An established defect should receive an appropriate classification rather than using FI simply because fault finding is needed to locate its cause.
Does a C3 mean remedial work is urgent?
C3 means improvement recommended. It does not, by itself, make the report unsatisfactory. We explain the recommendation and the options for carrying out an improvement.
Will I automatically need a new fuseboard or a rewire?
No. Recommendations follow assessment of the installation’s condition and risks. A consumer unit replacement alone does not correct defective wiring elsewhere.
What information should I send with my enquiry?
Include the address or postcode, property type and size, reason for the inspection, any previous report and known electrical concerns. A clear photograph of the consumer unit helps us discuss the scope and provide an initial estimate.
Do you cover Streatham and Streatham Hill?
Yes. We are based in Streatham and cover Streatham SW16 and Streatham Hill SW2, plus neighbouring South London areas. See all areas we cover.
