Fire Alarm Installation & Testing in South London
From interlinked smoke and heat alarms in homes to conventional and addressable fire alarm systems with control panels for communal and commercial buildings.
Practical advice, carefully planned installation, testing and clear handover documentation.
Our approach
Appropriate protection, not a one-size-fits-all alarm package
Fire detection requirements vary significantly between a single-family home, an HMO, a shared stairwell and a workplace. We assess the property and its intended use, then recommend suitable detection, warning and control arrangements.
Domestic smoke, heat & CO alarms
Mains-powered, interlinked alarms for homes and rental properties, with siting and coverage informed by the applicable guidance.
Shared and higher-risk buildings
Detection and alarm arrangements for HMOs and common areas, coordinated with the fire risk assessment and relevant building requirements.
Panel-based fire alarm systems
Conventional or addressable panels, detectors, manual call points, sounders and interfaces, selected to suit the building and design.
Equipment options
Fire alarm manufacturers we work with
Aico is our domestic alarm option; C-TEC and ESP offer broader panel-based solutions for a range of residential, communal and commercial settings. We select compatible equipment to suit the installation.

Aico
Domestic smoke, heat and carbon monoxide protection, including mains-powered interlinked systems for houses, flats and rental homes. Aico is also a practical replacement option for discontinued Google Nest Protect alarms, subject to a survey and suitable system design.
Training: Aico manufacturer training completed.

C-TEC
A broad range of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems for commercial premises, shared buildings and specialist residential applications, including suitable panel-based and monitored solutions.

ESP
Fire alarm panels, detectors, call points and sounders for a wider range of building types, including appropriate communal and commercial applications. Equipment selection depends on the system specification and compatibility.
Manufacturer references identify equipment options; they do not imply manufacturer accreditation or approval for C-TEC or ESP. Product photographs are illustrative examples, not a promise of a particular model.
Replacing discontinued alarms
Replacing Google Nest Protect with Aico
Google has discontinued production of Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Existing Nest Protect devices remain supported through their stated service life, but homeowners planning replacements may prefer a dedicated domestic alarm system.
Aico is a strong alternative for UK homes. Its smoke, heat and CO alarm ranges include mains-powered models with battery backup and options for interlinking, allowing us to specify suitable coverage for the property.
We can assess an existing Nest Protect installation, recommend suitable Aico devices, and carry out replacement and testing where appropriate.
Aico alarms are not a direct like-for-like replacement for Nest Protect smart-home features or proprietary wireless interconnection. Existing wiring, detector locations, alarm compatibility and any need to replace the complete interconnected system must be checked before installation.
Considering a Nest Protect replacement?
- Survey existing smoke and CO alarm locations
- Check mains supply and interconnection arrangements
- Specify suitable Aico smoke, heat and CO devices
- Install, test and explain the new system
Fire alarm system types
Interlinked, conventional and addressable
Interlinked domestic systems activate connected alarms when one detector operates, helping warn occupants throughout the protected area.
Conventional systems identify an alarm condition by zone and are often suitable for smaller, straightforward premises.
Addressable systems identify individual devices and can support more complex layouts, cause-and-effect arrangements and monitoring requirements.
Typical system components
- Smoke and heat detectors
- Fire alarm control and indicating equipment
- Manual call points and alarm sounders
- Visual alarm devices where required
- Standby batteries and monitored circuits
- Interfaces and appropriate labelling/documentation
Standards & compliance
Installation, inspection and testing
Domestic fire detection and alarm design is considered against BS 5839-6, where applicable. For non-domestic premises, the relevant framework is BS 5839-1:2025, together with the building's fire risk assessment, fire strategy and any applicable statutory requirements.
Electrical installation work is undertaken with regard to applicable BS 7671 requirements. We explain any identified limitations, recommended remedial actions and the documentation appropriate to the scope of work.

Common questions
Fire alarm FAQs
Can you replace my Google Nest Protect alarms with Aico?
Yes, where a survey confirms an appropriate Aico system can be installed. Nest Protect has been discontinued for new sales, but existing devices remain supported through their expiry dates. Aico is an alternative domestic alarm solution, not a direct replacement for Nest smart-home functionality or wireless interconnection.
Do I need a panel-based fire alarm system?
Not necessarily. The building type, use, fire risk assessment and applicable standards determine whether interlinked domestic alarms or a conventional or addressable panel-based system is appropriate.
Can you install alarms in an HMO?
We can assess and quote for suitable alarm works. HMO requirements depend on the property layout, occupancy, licence conditions and fire risk assessment; some premises require specialist system design.
What is the difference between conventional and addressable fire alarms?
A conventional panel normally indicates an alarm by zone. An addressable system can identify individual devices, offering more detailed fault and alarm information.
Can existing fire alarm equipment be extended?
Sometimes. Compatibility, capacity, condition, documentation and the existing system design must be checked before alterations are agreed.
Do fire alarms need regular testing and maintenance?
Yes. Testing, servicing and record-keeping requirements depend on the system type and premises. A suitable maintenance regime should be established and followed.
Will you provide certification and documentation?
We provide documentation appropriate to the work undertaken. The precise design, installation, commissioning or electrical certification depends on the system and agreed scope.
