Three ways to approach a rewire
We explain the trade-offs before work starts, including disruption, access and opportunities to future-proof the installation.
Full rewiring
Replacement of wiring and circuits throughout a property, often as part of a major renovation or where the existing installation is no longer suitable.
Best coordinated before plastering, kitchen fitting and final decoration.
Partial rewiring
Focused replacement or extension of circuits in a kitchen, extension, loft conversion or other area, subject to the condition of the retained installation.
Existing circuits must be assessed for safe connection and continued use.
Staged rewiring
A planned sequence of works for occupied properties or projects with multiple refurbishment stages, with supplies managed as safely and practically as possible.
Temporary arrangements and outages are agreed in advance.
When should wiring be investigated?
Age alone is not a reliable reason to replace an electrical installation. We look at its condition, suitability and test results.

Our rewiring process
Site assessment and scope
Review existing circuits, access constraints, drawings and your requirements. Agree what is included and any provisional items.
Design and programme
Plan circuit arrangements, protective measures, accessory positions, first-fix routes and expected interruptions.
First fix and installation
Install wiring, back boxes and containment as agreed, coordinating with builders and other trades where relevant.
Second fix, inspection and testing
Fit accessories and equipment, carry out inspection and testing, address defects and provide the appropriate electrical certification.
Qualified inspection, testing and certification
NOD Electrical Services is NAPIT-registered. Our qualifications include City & Guilds 2391 for electrical inspection and testing, supporting a structured approach to verification and certification.
Work is designed, installed and verified against the applicable requirements of BS 7671, including amendments in force for the project, and Building Regulations Part P where relevant. Notifiable domestic work is notified through the appropriate route.
Compliance is assessed against the requirements applicable to the work; older installations do not automatically require full replacement solely because standards have evolved.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
Visible damage, persistent faults or an unsatisfactory inspection may justify further investigation. An EICR and, where necessary, additional assessment can help determine whether repair, partial replacement or a full rewire is appropriate.
Can you rewire a property while we live in it?
Often, yes. It depends on access, safety, the extent of the works and how supplies can be managed. A staged programme can sometimes reduce disruption, but dust, temporary loss of power and access to rooms should be expected.
How long does a full rewire take?
Timescales vary with property size, complexity, occupancy and coordination with plastering and decorating. We provide a programme after assessing the site rather than promising a fixed duration for every property.
Does rewiring include a new consumer unit?
Not automatically. We assess the existing board and protective devices and include replacement where required or agreed as part of the design and estimate.
Will you make good the walls afterwards?
Chasing, access openings, plaster repairs and decoration should be defined in the written scope. We will clarify which making-good works are included and which are handled by other trades.
What certification will I receive?
Appropriate electrical certification is provided for the work undertaken, typically an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits or a full rewire. Building Regulations notification is completed where required.
